Wylie is a lovely historic community in Texas, not far from Dallas. This town is situated alongside Lavon Lake, and is beautiful, peaceful and family-friendly. Big personalities and lots of history abound in Texas…making it an ideal place to explore culture, the arts and American history.
The downtown area of Wylie is now a historic attraction. In the beginning, it was a community gathering place where market was held every Saturday. Railroads were built, which infused the town with money and boosted the economy. The area became a busy and desirable spot where shop owners were known to stay open late. They still do that to this day and it is often called “Wide Awake Wylie”. The town’s wide array of shops offer coffees and unique gifts, hand-crafted wood and leather merchandise, flower shops, and more. Take advantage of a warm Texas evening out and about strolling in the historic district. You’ll surely have a great time.
It is such a lovely and inviting place, that Wylie was recently named the “25th Best Place to Live in the U.S.” One of the main reasons is that the town holds so many events and the community is so involved. Pedal Car Races are held each year in early May, each July they hold a Bluegrass music festival. Wylie Arts Festival, held in early December, is a great way to get out and check out local art. There’s also a Christmas parade, Halloween festival and much more! The weather is always great for an event and the events are always full of life and everyone comes out to have fun. It doesn’t get better than that!
